FAQ's

As questions come into my email box or over the phone, I post them here in my FAQ section. Hopefully they can help answer some of your stock photo questions. If not, send me an email and I'll see what I can do.

Why did you decide to start selling your photos?
Answer: I love taking pictures. I take thousands of them. Photography is a way to capture today so we can remember it tomorrow. I love it and want to share them!

Once I have chosen my stock photo and have gone through the checkout process, how do I get my photo file?
Answer: You will receive your JPG, DNG or TIF photo image file via a link immediately following a successful checkout. The photo will be available to download for 4 days with a limit of 3 total downloads. If you miss the link when you checkout you can always just login back in to your account and look at your recent orders for the download link(s). MAKE SURE YOU CLICK ON THE BACK TO MERCHANT LINK ON THE LAST PAGE OF PAYPAL CHECKOUT. That will allow you to pickup your photo. (until I get rid of paypal)

Do you offer any other photo formats besides JPG?
Answer: Yes. I do offer "digital negatives" for some of my stock photos. My camera shoots the file as a cr2 format but I have tried to make it more universal by converting them to Adobe's Digital Negative or (DNG) format. I also offer high resolution, uncompressed TIFF files for some of my stock photos. (more will be added each week)

Why do a lot of your stock photos have so much negative space?
Answer: More than usual when I'm taking a photo, I will stop and think about how it could be used in a design or in a layout from a designer's perspective. I think about the positioning of the object/subject and where copy and a logo could go. I think about how best this photo could be used for a brochure, flyer, website or something that is primarily used in advertising.

What kind of photography equipment do you use?
Answer: I've used the Canon EOS 20D and now I'm using the Canon EOS 5D. Some great lenses I use include the Canon EF 24-70mm USM Lens and the Canon EF 70-300mm IS USM Lens. I've used the Canon EFS 17-85mm IS USM Lens which was pretty good (but only for the Canon EOS 20D) and a lower end lens, the Canon EFS 18-55mm Lens was a good basic starter but by no means for the professional photographer.

Can I buy your images from other stock photo sites?
Answer: Yes and no. I do have some exclusive photos here. Browse through my site and you'll see a link on those that I also posted to other agency sites. You'll notice that I have galleries with istockphoto, ShutterStock, fotolia, crestock, Big Stock Photo and Dreamstime.

I need a specific photo for an ad I'm creating. Do you take photo requests?
Answer: Sure I will. Fill out my contact form with all the photo requirements / specs and I'll see what I can do for you.

I'm not a designer but see a photo that I think would look good for my business. Do you design ads for people as well?
Answer: Photography and design (and my wife) are my passions. I do freelance / contract design work ranging from corporate identity to website user interface design and development. Again, use my contact form and I'll respond as soon as I can.

Your cat photos are great, what kind of cats are those?
Answer: Funny, I get a lot of questions about these two. They are Bengals, which is a bred down, domestic version of the Asian Leopard. They are beautiful, very affectionate and they LOVE water. Some day they'll end up doing ads for Friskies or Iams! :) "Marbles" and "Simba."
